| Intial Keystone Playtest in the books |
[Jul. 29th, 2007|07:43 am] |
My first round of playtests with Keystone is finished, and I was very happy with it. Now I'm going to step back and write a draft and hand the reins of playtesting to my compadre, Jason Sims. A good bit of stuff was changed during play and now it is time to make sure the game is played with a consistent rule set to make sure those were the right changes.
Thinks I enjoy about the game:
Destinies, oh how I love you Opening Sentences, hooray for daring story pushing Spotlight Conflicts, making sure the most important conflict is also the most dynamic contest...coolness Extra, making static modifiers come to life and making enemies static modifiers...its pimp. Oh and huge group conflicts ain't no thang.
Not liking:
No dice pools, sometimes you just want to throw a bunch of dice. This game works better without out. The Sacrifice mechanics, they're getting an overhaul, along with other parts of that system (props and extras) The term "plot twist", it ended up being redundant
Under utilized:
Waiting in the wings position, the playtest didn't have anyone who went this route, and its something I want to see in action Set Pieces, the first couple of scenes they were omnipresent...and like that they were gone Moral Quandries, either use 'em or don't Tyler...
All in all, it was the game the players and I wanted to play, and the story we wanted to tell. That was what that playtest produced, a notion of tell your story and let others tell there's and somewhere along those continuums you'll meet and that shall be the result. |

| Something that burns my ass, not made of flaming hotness |
[Apr. 22nd, 2007|11:03 am] |
This was posted by someone on my board the other day, when another boardmember asked what people that about meaningless character death...
"I think you did the right thing. Shit, pc death is a part of the game. If the player wants to cry about it, then maybe he/she needs to find a new hobby. As a side note, I wouldn't say the character's death was meaningless. I believe it gives a respect (not fear) to the Gm. "This guy isn't afraid to kill my ass, I better think my shit through."
I just get so tired of this shit....regardless of his thoughts on style (killing folks to show them, how not to play), telling folks to quit playing altogether, 'cause they might complain about what a guy running a game does. I just give up, gamers are a helpless self destructive lot, and we deserve our spiralling into obscurity. |

For this task we bring on Joshua A.C. Newman, creator of Shock: Social Fiction. So strap on your rocket boots and prepared to get shocked by Epiosde -14.

| The Gamestas are back, with the cast of Midnight |
[Mar. 9th, 2007|11:01 pm] |
We got a new show up with some of the cast and crew of the Midnight Chronicles. It does not include my voice, but instead has my own brother Kris Allen, alongside Spikey at the helm. If you haven't heard about the Midnight Chronicles movie, it is a production set in the Fantasy Flight Games setting of Midnight, a great world in which the world's equivalent of Sauron has won sole dominion of the world, and you are a small pocket of freedom fighters. There are no clerics of any good gods, magic is outlawed and actively hunted by Legates and their demon hounds, oh and you're not allowed to own weapons or armor. Anyway it looks like it'll make a good movie, and excitingly its kind of art house flick directly from FFG.

| Catch up |
[Oct. 9th, 2006|12:12 pm] |
I'm trying to catch up some of my blog stuff, so here we go....
Ahhhh, what to say about -7? It's great, it's hardcore, it's without peer (save for Episode 0-Episode -6). If it were a Fight Battle character, it's reference point would be...it would be....well it would be big. This time around we talk about a new mechanic that might rock the world to its core and the Gamestas community game, which may be the only thing saving the race from extinction. In addition to all that, Mike Mearls, developer for Wizards of the Coast, writer of Iron Heroes, and creative genius behind Fight Battle. He answers the tough questions, and helps us make further fools of ourselves. Sit next to and absorb Episode -7.

P.S. Feel free to go our forums and leaves us your thoughts on the show here (you got to register before you can post, so do that too!)

| Episode -4, so fresh and so clean, clean |
[Jul. 12th, 2006|11:18 pm] |
We know you have questions about playtesting some of the newer roleplaying games out there. How do we know, you may ask? Consult page 141 of the AD&D 2nd Edition Player's Handbook, and hit the forum here with your answer. But before you head there, go ahead and start downloading Episode -4. This week, we dive into the realm of playtesting with a few words on the subject from Matt McElroy from FlamesRising.com . Our featured guest is Monica Valentinelli and her game Occupation, which is currently in production. If you've ever wanted to be in the thick of game production (and get free schwag to boot), this is the episode to listen to.
Oh, and the first to give me the answer may get a little something if they've been good this year. It may be a quick shout on the show; I may come over and clean your house. Who knows.

[Jun. 20th, 2006|12:58 am] |
Once more into the breach, dear friends. We press ever onward with a new, exciting edition, with the kind of gaming talk only sworn enemies could have!!! That's right folks, you guessed it, Keith Senkowski is back for round two, and this time, we're wearing barbed wire gloves. Actually, Keith saved our bacon, and gave us some great ideas, but don't tell him that. So listen up folks, and enter the twilight zone of Episode -1.

| Ep 0 |
[Jun. 15th, 2006|04:26 pm] |
As a reward for hitting 10 full length episodes, Tyler and I were granted the ability to travel to one moment in time, returning after only a short while. The path became clear after a moment that we should go back in time to the original episodes we recorded and add a beginning and end for future repackaging. As time grew thin, Tyler mixed down the new old episode and burned it to a CD. Straight from the past with a taste of the future comes Episode 0, which contains the original four segments we recorded with additional material regarding the state of our Gamestas community.

| Post ep 10 |
[Jun. 12th, 2006|01:26 pm] |
|
We had an interview scheduled yesterday with Sam Chupp for ep 11, but due to time zone awfulness (I hate 'em), we had to scrap it. This week around, we'll be putting up our Episode 0, with our first segments put together for easy digestion, and kind of an idea of whats coming up. This week we'll get back on schedule and talk to Sam on Friday, with Monte Cook, Jared Sorensen, Jason Blair, and Monica Valentinelli in the weeks to come. Its gonna be fun, I tells ya. Maybe I can finally track down that Fight Battle guy too... |
